Acupuncture
What exactly is the idea with all the needles?
Acupuncture is the technique of inserting and manipulating filiform needles into 'acupuncture points' on the body with the aim of restoring health and well-being, such as treating pain, disease and imbalances. Acupuncture points are connected points across the body which affect a specific organ or other part of a person, as well as numerous other extra points that are not associated with a particular meridian. The process involves the insertion of sterile, thin, filament-like needles inserted into points on the skin that are active in an energetic sense. The energy we are referring to is not amorphous or airy-fairy, it simply is beyond the present capacity of our instruments to measure. It has been measured indirectly, through the injection of radioactive isotopes into acupoints and their measurement with gamma photography.
The needles used contact the points on these energy meridians where there is excess or deficient flow, and the acupuncturist uses them as a tool to make necessary adjustments. The meridians are connected with the body's internal organs, so the flow determines the relative health of the individual from an internal medicine standpoint. The effects of acupuncture in general are regulatory. Most patients experience a feeling of well-being after or during the treatment that can last hours or days afterward. Sometimes the relaxation can get intense.

Chinese Herbs
Chinese herbology is an artful science that has been developed over the last 5000 years in the East. What began as trial and error or perhaps shamanic explorations has become the realm of modern medical science. In China today, herbs are decocted for patients in hospitals and given to the patients there along with their standard Western therapy. Herbs are known to reduce the side effects and the necessary dosage of medications, as well as to actually effect healing.
Over 25% of modern medicines are derived from plants- Chinese herbology uses these same plants, only whole, so that they can be properly assimilated and keep the patient free of side effects. Side effects do happen, but are much milder than in cases of medications. Whereas the hazards of medications range from mild discomfort to death, the side effects of herbs range from mild discomfort to moderate discomfort. A little difference there...
